Naughty Bear

"[I]f you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do well matters very much." Jacqueline Kennedy

Not a great day for the Skinners. Samantha's teacher stayed late to talk to Ned about Samantha's behavior today when he picked the kids up from school. Apparently, she didn't listen at all today. Usually she is pretty good at school so we were very disappointed. I didn't get home from work until late so Ned had to brief me about it when I arrived home at close to 7pm. I wanted to throw the book at Bear (figuratively not literally) but Ned said we shouldn't be so hard on her. He thought there was an issue of a lot of kids not listening in the class and that Bear might be following the crowd. This explanation didn't sit well with me because one day it's not sitting on the rug for "circle time," then before you know it, your 4-year-old is a 16-year-old hanging out in Wal-Mart and buying massive quantities of sudafed to help her drug dealer boyfriend make methamphetamine because "everyone is doing it."

Anyway, Bear spent a good part of the evening in time-out and a lot of time getting a lecture from Ned and me. I caught Ned telling her that she didn't need to act like a P.O.S. (he used the abbreviation) and I had to point out that using the term P.O.S. wasn't appropriate for a 4-year-old (or any kid for that matter). I could just see her going to school and telling her teacher that her daddy said she couldn't act like a P.O.S. The silver lining was that she went to bed by herself with no TV.

Given the fact that my daughter is well on her way to juvenile delinquency, one would think that I would have curled up with one of my parenting books such as John Rosemond's "New Parent Power" or James Dobson's "Dare to Discipline." Instead, I opted for my chick-lit novel. It was either that or a valium and I don't have a prescription.

Love,
Allie

p.s. Bear sang in church yesterday with the orchestra and all the choirs. Of her three "concerts" this one would rank second. Better than the last time but not as good as the first one when she carried the cherub choir and rocked the house. I tried to snap some pics (not very good).

I really appreciated this guy with the 'stache plopping down in front of us right as I was getting ready to take a pic.

The following is Ned's one photographic contribution to the morning.
