Evolution of a date

January 24, 2009-- Ned and I decide that we should go out for Valentine's Day. We decide that it would be best to go out on February 13 (Friday), rather than February 14 because it will probably be too crowded. Ned says he will line up a swimmer to babysit. We both agree that a nice dinner and movie are the way to go.

January 31, 2009-- Ned asks me if I want to go to Bookbinders for Valentine's dinner. If so, he needs to make a reservation. He informs me that he has lined up a sitter for 2/13. I can't make up my mind if I want to go to Bookbinders and tell him I need more time to think about it. I also don't know what movie I want to see.

February 4, 2009-- Ned asks me again what I want to do for Valentine's? Which restaurant and which movie? I still can't decide and even begin questioning whether we should to out at all.

February 7, 2009-- Another inquiry from Ned regarding my wishes for our big night out. I still can't make a decision.

February 10, 2009-- Ned wants to know what I'm thinking for Friday night. I finally decide that I want to go see a movie at the Lyric because I like that theater better. If we're going to the Lyric, we might as well go to eat somewhere in downtown Blacksburg. Problem is that I check the Lyric schedule and see that "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is playing. That movie is like 3 hours long and I don't feel like seeing it in a theater. I'm also interested in "He's Just Not That Into You" but I know it's a chick flick and Ned probably won't want to go see it. Given these obstacles, I bury my head in the sand and do not make a decision.

February 12, 2009-- When Ned gets home from work, he asks me what I want to do the next night. I HAVE to make a decision; time's up. I agree to go to Bookbinders. He calls to make a reservation and we are shut out. Back to the drawing board. After a lot of discussion, we decide to go see "Slumdog Millionaire." The only problem is that it starts at 7:10pm and our sitter can't get here until 6pm. There's no way we will be able to go anyplace nice for dinner. We decide to grab something quick before we go to the movie and that we will go out for coffee and dessert afterwards.

February 13, 2009-- This is the BIG night. I go to coffee with my friend Jennifer that morning and make plans to meet Ned for a pedicure and lunch. Post pedicure and during lunch, we receive a call from daycare. Samantha is sick and we need to come and get her. We pick her up and make an appointment for that afternoon. Samantha has strep throat. After we leave the doctor, I go fill her prescription and get some children's ibuprofen. We cancel the babysitter. Valentine's dinner is a frozen pizza. Fortunately, Samantha is feeling better before we go to bed.
