As everyone knows, the game turned out to be a nail biter and we watched until the end of the game, all the post-game interviews, and the general hoopla. Our friends had gone home around 9:30 but we didn't put the kids in their beds until midnight; they fell asleep "watching the game."My top three moments from the Super Bowl: 1) "the catch" by Santonio Holmes in the final minute of the game. I couldn't believe it; I was glued to the TV. So was Jack.
2) Could you believe how quickly Kurt Warner showered and put on a suit after the game? I was shocked when they went to him for a post-game interview and he was freshly showered and looking incredibly dapper in a suit. He didn't waste any time getting off the field. 3) The awesome dinner my husband worked so hard to put together. He grilled lobster tails for the first time. Way to go Ned.
I'm adding a number 4. I saw The Office for the first time after the game. That show is hysterical.
The weather yesterday was sensational. The golf course was in full swing; it reminded you of a summer day there were so many golfers out. The kids and Ned went for a ride in the golf cart.
Speaking of Jack's size, he had his 9 month checkup today. 21 pounds and 28 inches. 50th percentile all around. He only received one vaccination and he handled it like a trooper; only cried for about 5 seconds. Dr. Stapleton said he had good reflexes and Jack received a clean bill of health.
I thought it was going to be a traumatic visit when I showed up at the doctor's office and Ned told me that they didn't have us down for an appointment. [I had taken Samantha to school and met the guys at the doctor's office.] I was ready to come unglued but they managed to work us into the schedule. And no, I didn't mess up the appointment- - they did. I still had my appointment card.
I never got to tell you about gymnastics class on Sat. morning. Of course, it was about 15 degrees with the wind chill that morning and I had to take out both kids b/c Ned was out of town. I go to load up the kids in my car and can't find the good stroller (which will hold Jack's car seat). It's in Ned's minivan which was parked at an unknown location at VT. Now we have something like 6 strollers but the other heavy duty ones are up in the attic and I don't have time to get up there and get them. So I load up a flimsy umbrella stroller and think I will just battle. When I arrive at VT, there is no parking on the drillfield. We are running late so I park in the lot near Sandy Hall, cover Jack with some blankets so I can carry him in my arms, and we set off. We get to the class about 5 minutes late. Not too terribly bad.
Jack and I tried to watch the class from the observation window (parents aren't allowed to stay in the class). I was holding him in a standing position and he fell between the bench and the glass. He wasn't hurt but it freaked him out. I was so embarrassed by my poor parenting that I decided Jack and I would take a breather in the car since the class was an hour long. Once we got to the car, I decided I needed some caffeine and we drove over to Burger King. BAD MOVE. The parking was even worse when I returned. It was very near the end of class and I was really worried about arriving there late. I finally parked at the on-campus bookstore in a metered lot and started running toward the gym. Jack was asleep so I left him in his carseat. It was so cold and Jack was so heavy. I think I dislocated my arm from carrying him and I'm pretty sure I almost coughed up a lung.
The good news is that Bear really liked gymnastics. Her teacher told her she had a nice cartwheel (which she does).
Love,
Allie
